Quinceañera videographers
Like weddings, quinceañeras are an important event for many families. Thousands of dollars will be spent to make sure she has a very special day. Quinceañeras are therefore an important part of family history and deserve to be remembered on video. A girl will love to share the video of her quinceañera when she has her own daughter.
However, there are very few, if any, dedicated quinceañera videographers. Many videographers have never recorded or even attended a quiñceanera. Wedding videographers, however, can be easily found in Denver or any city. With a quick read of this guide, any experienced wedding videographer should be able to record a quinceañera. Because of my experience in filming quinceañeras, I’m going to share some tips that your videographer should know before video recording your daughter’s quinceañera.

Family and religion are the biggest themes of quinceañeras, use that theme in the video.

Religious tradition is an important part of quinceañeras and should be captured in a video.

The girl's court will perform a waltz, similar to the first dance at a wedding and is another important addition to her video.

The changing of a girl's shoes signifies her coming of age at her quinceañera.

The father daughter dance is one of the most important moments of a quinceañera

The padrinos (god parents) help sponsor a girl's quinceañera
What is a quinceañera?
Quinceañeras are a celebration of a girl’s coming of age. As the name implies, a quinceañera occurs on her 15th birthday. Typically, the quinceañera begins with a religious ceremony where she reaffirms her religion in the presence of her family and friends. A reception is held afterward that usually includes dinner. After dinner, the girl, her escort, and her court take to the dance floor and perform a waltz. The girl’s father then replaces her flat shoes with high heels and begin the father daughter dance. At some point in the evening girl’s padrinos (god parents) will be introduced. Padrinos typically provide service gifts (hiring the dj, cake designer, etc) or money to help put on the quinceañera.
From an event video stand point, the quinceañera is similar in many ways to the modern wedding. The day starts with a religious ceremony and ends at a reception with dinner, dancing, cake cutting, etc. Even the decor may be similar to a wedding. The main difference is that there is no groom, just the girl’s escort, so the video should be all about her and her family.
Video for quinceañeras
I will run through some quick tips that should help a wedding videographer create a successful quinceañera video.
- Like most weddings, use 2 video cameras at the the ceremony.
- One video camera should stay on the girl and the other should capture shots of friends and family.
- The girl will most likely face the priest and will be kneeling most of the time so plan where you position your video camera carefully.
- Attend the ceremony rehearsal as quinceañeras all have similarities but are all different.
- Find out ahead of time if there will be a live mariachi band and plan accordingly to capture excellent sound of their music.
- Just like you follow a bride at a wedding, follow the girl at her quinceañera. Everything happens at her quinceañera will happen around her.
- Setup far enough away from the dance floor that you can capture the entire waltz on the video. The girl’s court can spread out pretty far so you’ll need to be able to see the entire space.
- If family members that helped to sponsor the quinceañera are introduced, be prepared for a large gathering of people around the girl. You may have to raise your camera up on a monopod or stand on a chair to get any sort of shot of her for the video.
- The biggest tip I can give a videographer is to ask questions, all quinceañeras are different but have some similarities.
Quinceañera video wrap up
As long as you give some pointers to your videographer, an up to date time line, and complete information of the events that will be occurring, they’ll be able to produce a fabulous quinceañera video that resembles their high quality wedding videos.

this totally just made my entire day.
